[Apache2] SSLSessionCache: ‘shmcb’ session cache not supported

Background :

$ lsb_release
Distributor ID : Ubuntu
Description : Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
...

Problem :

$ sudo service apache2 restart
* Restarting web server apache2 [fail]
* The apache2 configtest failed.
Output of config test was:
AH00526: Syntax error on line 43 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/ssl.conf:
SSLSessionCache: 'shmcb' session cache not supported (known names: ). Maybe you need to load the appropriate socache module (mod_socache_shmcb?).
Action 'configtest' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.

Solution :

ln -s /etc/apache2/mods-available/socache_shmcb.load /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/.

  1. Awesome… Thanks for the help

    Even this works :
    cp /etc/apache2/mods-available/socache_shmcb.load /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/

    This will fix: SSLSessionCache: ‘shmcb’ session cache not supported (known names: ). Maybe you need to load the appropriate socache module (mod_socache_shmcb?).

    • Yes `cp` will work too. But Apache (on Debian-based systems) expects you to symlink the enabled mods, as opposed to copying them. This is what the `a2enmod` and `a2dismod` commands do.

      (Same idea for `conf` and `sites` too)
